Ok, since I am way too lazy to type this all out again I will just copy/paste from an email to Valerie:
Today I took Jack for speech testing with the school district. He has always been a bit behind in things like crawling, walking & speech but always caught up, or so I thought. Had mentioned to his pediatrician that I was concerned about him being so far behind other kids his age in speech & she said to get him tested. I put it off for months b/c I don't want him to be labeled as slow & b/c I was hoping that he would catch up but although he is progressing he just seems to be more at the level of a 2 year old than a 3 year old.
So the teacher did a whole round of developmental tests & he did score low on everything other than behavior ~ he is the best natured little boy in the world & was so happy to "play" all the testing activities with her. Now we have been assigned to a case worker that will run more tests & probably will be put into some programs (preschool setting) to help him advance. The teacher we worked with today said that he is the perfect age b/c he can listen & follow directions and still has plenty of time to catch up with age level before he goes to school. I am relieved that we will be helping Jack to learn but it is sad too that he is behind other kids his age. Right now he is running around the yard pushing his Little Tykes police car yelling "Yee haw!" I love him so much :)

Holy smokes, was it time for something to go right for me or what?!!! Today I decided to reach out to a friend that I thought was lost to me & it went well; score one for Team Nita :) That by itself would have made for one of the best days of the year.
Then this afternoon I met with Paige George, an advisor at St. Charles Comm College. After talking with Val (who is an LPN at St. Luke's hospital/ graduated from SCCCC & is bridging to RN now at Meramec) I followed her advice & am going to take the LPN course instead of the RN. It gets me into the field more quickly & it is possible to work at the same time. The rigors of the RN course make it nearly impossible to hold a job at the same time.
Soooo anyway, I am expecting that I will have to take Biology, Anatomy I, Anatomy II, Psych of Aging, and a regular Psych course BEFORE applying to the LPN program ~ so in my mind the earliest that I will be able to get into LPN classes is going to be the fall of 2011. Boo ~ sooooo far away from now. BUT Paige said that I can take any of those classes whenever I need to as long as they are prior to the end of the LPN program and that I have almost everything I need to start the LPN program THIS JANUARY!!!! Hot darn! So she set me up to takeHuman Biology & Intro to Psychology this summer, Psych of Aging and Anatomy I plus its lab this fall. Then spring semester of next year I will take Anat II and its lab while taking the beginning LPN classes ~ no biggie though b/c it was going to be a light semester anyhow; now it will be jam-packed! ;)
I was able to go ahead and apply for the LPN program already b/c I have 3 of the 4 requirements met. Now I just have to take the Dosage Test given in August & be one of the first 40 people to apply b/c it is a first come basis. I will buy the book ASAP & see if I believe that I can learn it on my own or if I should take the 4 week course over the summer. I HAVE to pass the test with a 90% or above & only am able to take it 3 times so it is VERY IMPORTANT!
Oh, and of course now I have to figure out how to finance it :) Paige said that it is probably too late for me to get financial assistance for the summer semester but that I have time for the fall. How wonderful! I am going to find SOME WAY to make this all work! Also, I am so excited & really need this to boost my confidence & to get me out of myself. Being home with my family has been wonderful but I have become something of a social - phobe in the meantime :) I have always been shy and being away from people seems to have made it worse.
So tonight I am going to fill out the FAFSA paperwork to apply for federal aid and then will check back with the financial aid office at the college for more info ~ hopefully tomorrow but Monday at the latest.
Chris leaves for his conference in Orlando tomorrow morning & will be gone until Sunday. It will be so weird to be alone at home with the boys for 4 days. We can use the time apart though & next week it will be my turn when I go to visit Shel in Colorado!!!! :)
Now... what to get baby Sophia for her baptism? Any ideas 'cause I am clueless... I'll stop by Things Remembered & see what I can get engraved. And I will probably swing by Cooperative Homecare on Monday (Chris will be home) and see how flexible of a schedule that they could offer me. I need to work evenings during the summer b/c I have day classes but days during the fall b/c I have night classes. After that the LPN program will be during the day. I need to make enough money to pay for Jack to go to the sitter or hopefully, preschool and pay for whatever portion of the classes/books/other expenses financial aid won't cover. Not to mention that I am tired of being perpetually broke... but the LPN will majorly help that when I get my license!
I am so excited!!! There is of course some evil little nagging devil on my shoulder telling me that I will never be able to do this & who do I think I am & shouldn't I work full time or be home with the kids, and about a hundred other things BUT I have had such an incredibly wonderful day that I am ignoring it!!! :)
Oh! And since I had two miracles already, I purchased a $1 scratch off ticket at the grocery store & won $5! Not enough to pay for my classes but I am happy! :) Hooray! I will sleep with a smile on my face tonight.
